There are times, when my store tried to sell me a specific brand fertilizer that had spoiled my marijuana plant. Is that something really good they want to sell or there is some hidden benefits of the store owners. Let’s find out here.

The reality:

hydroponics store After visiting different hydroponic stores, I have found out some hidden realities that every marijuana grower should be aware of. Few stores have particular agreements with prominent hydroponic producers to sell off their brands to consumers. Through this, many store owners get financial inducement to push specific brand over other. Most stores owners mostly focused on earning profits rather than selling good products. Some hydroponic producers put sales quotas for different stores. They provide store owner with specific kickbacks, refund and erstwhile rewards.  Due to such financial benefits, the stores request their customers to buy products which give them higher returns. That’s quite standard practice of most hydroponic retailer.

Tips and Strategy:

Here are tips and tactics for marijuana grower looking for fair hydroponic store advice

  • Try to spend time in hydroponic store and observe what method they are following for selling products to growers. There are times when you see store employee routing costumers with specific brands and chanting its benefits.
  • Politely ask the store owners if they receive any kickbacks or refund while selling specific brand or promoting products.
  • Try to get specific knowledge about the product that store owner recommends you. This will help you get more knowledge or know the honesty of the adviser.
  • Check out the store’s exchange or refund policy, mainly for buying marijuana growing goods. If the store owner is confident of selling or recommending of something great products, ask him to offer you an instant refund if the product that does not work well. If he deny offering you with the refund or exchange policy, than there is something hidden. Avoid buying such products.
  • If you’re trying new products for the first time, buy the smallest containers. Use that products on marijuana plants and pay close attention. Observe and see whether the product is producing bad or good results effect on your marijuana plant. You can also ask for free sample before buying the new products.
  • You can visit various hydroponic stores and ask similar questions. Do research on products recommended by most store owners and talk with your grow friends before you purchase the product.
  • Follow the hydroponics store company websites. If the company gives you a professional website which speaks to their consumers as a marijuana cultivator and gives tons of marijuana growing information, that product or company gets extra credits.

What are Hydroponic Growing Cabbage Challenges?

hydroponic cabbageThese days hydroponic gardening, a soilless mode of cultivation, is becoming extremely popular and reaping huge returns on investments by growers. Growing and yielding vegetables and other commercial crops in all seasons is another reason for its fame. Cabbage, a member of the brassica family, can also be grown hydroponically and can fetch you great harvest all year-round without much of trouble.

You just have to select a right location with good light and then choose and set up a hydroponic system that suits your budget. Then you can start with your indoor vegetable gardening by purchasing right quality seeds and then germinating them, transplanting them into hydroponic garden, watch them grow, and probably in 60-90 days, you’ll start harvesting a great yield of fresh and nutrient-rich cabbage.

However, this is slight difficult unless you have fixed the problems which growers usually encounter while growing cabbages hydroponically.

  1. Physical Factors like Light, Humidity, Temperature, and pH — Cabbage needs good amount of light to thrive but remember they are scorched or grow pale under too much heat. Cabbages begin to crack if environment get too hot or dry indoors. If you are growing outdoors, then place your plants where you can give them shade from the mid-day sun, and if you are growing indoors, then place the grow lights of appropriate intensity and well above the plants. Cabbages grow well in pH 6.5 to 7, so don’t forget to monitor the pH balance of the grow medium. Drain the entire water every three weeks.
  2. Nitrogen Content— Along with calcium and magnesium, cabbage needs plenty of nitrogen for growth. Make sure that your hydroponic nutrient is a good mix of all these along with some amino acid and mineral content so that your crop does not suffer nutrient deficiency.
  3. Transplant Shock— Cabbage is vulnerable to transplant shock but with caution, cabbage seeds can be germinated indoors for faster development. Germinating in individual compartments lets you to transplant these to hydroponic media without any shock.
  4. Pathogens and Pests— In indoor vegetable hydroponic gardening, aphids can most likely attack cabbage crops. You can control them by using insecticidal soaps or insecticides like Diazinon or Sevin. A layer of aluminum foil underneath plants points light to base of leaves making them an unsuitable habitat for aphids. In moist environment of hydroponic gardening, slugs and snails prevail, so promote a dry environment to discourage them. You can also effectively remove them by laying handpicked traps and snail baits.

Indoor Plant Care and Feeding Tips for Hydroponic Gardening

Indoor Plant Care and Feeding Tips for Hydroponic GardeningPlants grow well with proper nurturing and care. This applies especially for indoor plants because they are not growing in their natural habitat. Indoor gardening not only requires proper set-up and precision but also plant care. Fundamental elements like light, clean air, water, food etc are to be provided in proper amounts to ensure healthy growth of indoor plants and hydroponic gardening.

Light:

Plants make their own food and this process is called as photosynthesis. As the name denotes, this process is dependent on light (photo=light, synthesis=to make). Indoor plants grown in your indoor hydroponic garden should be provided with ample amount of light to simulate the outdoor growing environment. However, make sure you do not go for harsh light sources as they tend to damage plant roots. In case of greenhouses or hydroponic gardening, you can choose from a variety of lighting options like HPS bulbs or metal halides bulbs. Compact fluorescent lamps also work great in case of indoor plants like cactus and aloe. Provision of proper light is important in plant care.

Water and other physical factors:

Provide enough water to your indoor plants, however, do not over water them. Though there is no guide for the amount of water required by each plant, experience can act as your best teacher. Similarly in case of factors like temperature, pH of soil or nutrient media in case of hydroponic gardening, humidity etc. it will differ from plant to plant. To provide appropriate humid conditions, you can spray the leaves with water from time to time or place plants in a tray of wet pebbles.

Nutrients:

Plant care and  feeding in terms of nutrients to promote their growth helps plant grow healthily. In case of indoor gardening, plants have to be fertilized once in fourteen days. Go for fertilizers with proper N: P: K (Nitrogen: Phosphorus: Potassium) ratio. If you wish to avoid using chemical fertilizers, you can go with organic and completely natural options like green manure, compost, kelp etc. Other than these macro-elements, you use supplements for plant feeding. Supplementary diet will provide micro-nutrients like calcium, manganese, magnesium and iron to your plants.

Pest infestation and diseases:

Indoor plants too are liable to get attacked by pests and diseases. Make sure that the surrounding where the plants are grown is clean and dry to avoid fungus or rot infestation. You can make use of pesticides in case they attack your plants; however remember that prevention is always a better option than cure.

Pruning of indoor plants:

Many people think that pruning is not that essential and can be avoided. But it is a misconception. Pruning is not required just to get desired shape and size, but also to grow healthy indoor plants. If plants are not pruned properly, they grow up to be tilted and off balance. This is a problem for indoor plants as there is no space for them to spread. So make sure you prune the plants regularly with the help of clean and sterilized equipment.

If you diligently follow all the aforementioned guidelines and provide gentle care to your indoor plants, you will definitely get to see healthy plants and improve your yields significantly.

Cultivate Hydroponic Plants with Hydroponic Growing

Cultivate Hydroponic Plants with Hydroponic Growing Are you an enthusiast looking for new cutting edge methods of hydroponic growing? Do you wish to cultivate various vegetables and fruits hydroponically? Well, then you are just a few steps away from your dream coming true. Just by following a few simple instructions, you can be an expert in hydroponic gardening!

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. All the essential elements are provided to the plants through nutrient solutions which is water based. To cultivate plants with hydroponic growing you will have to follow these steps:

1. Select space to grow hydroponic plants:

Hydroponics, a soilless method of farming, helps in growing plants in minimal space. Depending on the size and desired yield of your crop, you can choose any container ranging from an unused fish tank to a big barrel of water. Remember that the container should be cleaned thoroughly before using to avoid fungal attack.

2. Select appropriate growing medium

Choosing the right nutrient media will help your plants grow and flourish. Choice of the growing media depends on the plant that you are growing. There are certain growing media used commonly in hydroponic gardening like rockwool, coconut fiber, perlite, clay pebbles and air (in case of aeroponics).

3. Maintain light, temperature and other physical factors:

If you are growing hydroponic plants outdoors, you are solely dependent on natural source for light. However, for indoor hydroponic gardens, the right source of light has to be selected. If you are not growing plants on a large scale then Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs are the right choice for you. However, for larger hydroponic gardens, going for HPS light bulbs would be prudent. Make sure that your light source is not too harsh for it will damage plants’ roots.

Other physical factors like temperature, humidity, and pH level need to be constantly monitored. During the early growing stage, plants require high humidity and temperature. The correct pH level of nutrient media however differs from plant to plant and needs to be closely monitored as per the requirement of your hydroponic gardening.

4. Pruning and care of hydroponic plants:

Once plants bloom, ensure that you prune them regularly, remove dried or yellowed leaves and trim them to get fuller and bushier plants.

My personal experience says that with a little care and en eye for precision, you can cultivate healthy, flourishing hydroponic plants with marginal capital investment and minimal space.

Hydroponic Growing Techniques for Better Yields

Hydroponic Growing Techniques for Better YieldsIt is a pleasure sight for any hydroponic grower that his garden is full of rich yields. For that, one has to practice certain techniques in hydroponic gardening. Choosing the right technique will give you better yields with hydroponic growing.

Deep water culture:

This method is ideal for small to medium sized plants. Plant roots are suspended in to nutrient solution in this method. The water is kept oxygenated. This technique is very effective as it allows plant roots to absorb large quantities of oxygen and also it provides rich nutrition to plants.

Herbs, small flowered plants and lettuce grow very well in this type of hydroponic gardening technique. If you wish to grow large plants in deep water culture, make sure that you go for larger container so that roots get enough space to spread out.

Ebb and Flow technique:

In this system, grow tray is temporarily flooded with nutrient solution and then it is drained back to the reservoir. A submerged pump is used to force nutrient solution in and out of the tray. This technique is very versatile and you can use it with different kind of media.

You can grow a variety of plants at your indoor vegetable gardening using this technique. Plants like tomato, lettuce, and pepper grow very well and give you a better yield with ebb and flow technique.

Expandable drip system:

This technique is very efficient for larger plants. It is one of the most widely used forms of hydroponics.  Plants are placed in to the growth medium suspended by baskets. Water and nutrient solution is dripped through the growing medium from reservoir in such a way that plants can intake them with the help of their roots.

Plants like tomatoes, cucumbers, aloe and pineapple grow very well in expandable drip system.

Nutrient Film Technique:

This method is ideal for medium to large sized plants. This technique involves a thin layer or film of nutrient solution flowing over the roots of plants. Roots take nutrition from this film.

Plants like African violets, tomatoes, herbs, romaine lettuce etc grow very well with the help of Nutrient Film Technique.

Depending upon the type of plant you grow, you have to choose the correct hydroponic gardening technique and it will give you better yield.
